Hello, both my daughter and I have been patients of Dr Carol Hlela and I would, and have often referred others to her with great confidence. Our story started in early 2021 when my then 10 year old presented with severe facial  acne. I specifically wanted a paediatric dermatologist because of my daughter's young age. Meeting Dr Carol Hlela has been a blessing, she has an excellent professional and thorough manner whilst being in tune with my child.
Dr Hlela did several tests and screenings before suggesting the use of Oratane at a low dose to start off with - because of her young age.
After not being pleased with the results she wanted, the dose was incresed and my child was thoroughly educated on the do's and don'ts whilst using it.  The results were excellent and after a year the treatment was stopped - we have never looked back.
My personal journey started during one of my daughters visits when I asked dr to just suggest an ointment as I had been to 3 different dermatologists with no results and my eczema was completely out of control - especially my face, legs and hands.
Dr Hlela suggested a combination of medications and ointments. There was a vast improvement but not what Dr Hlela wanted for me and after a year she introduced me to the UCT Lung Institute where I was put on a Clinical Trial with good results.

My name is Saarah, I have had psoriasis for over 20 years of my life, severe plaque psoriasis that covered my body from head to toe. I had been through various treatments during the course of my life and while some worked partially, it never cleared it up completely. I then learned to live with it and was prepared to do so for the rest of my days.... This meant that my quality of life was impacted because of the regimens I needed to incorporate into my daily life to treat my skin. While I got accustomed to this and made peace with it, it so happened that my husband encouraged me to seek treatment again to see what advancements were made for the treatment of psoriasis since last seeing a dermatologist.I got to be a patient of Prof Carol through a family member who recommended that I try her and I started my journey with her at the beginning of 2022. I have not looked back since then and I am grateful each day since seeing her to treat my psoriasis. The care and time that she takes to walk you through everything, her patience to explain and write things down for you, to the costsing involved and answering all our concerns and questions, has been amazing. Let alone that I am now 95% free of psoriasis and the quality of my life has improved drastically, to be a normal person who can shower when she wants, to swim when she wants and live a normal life free from application of creams, ointments and all!

While I know that I am fortunate to be on the treatment that I am, I know that it would not have been possible without Profs guidance and help. Taking it one step at a time with me and always being available to do the necessary research before embarking on anything new. So many people who have seen me with psoriasis who see me now have been amazed at my recovery and have in turn asked for her details, and I will always share it with anyone with confidence because I know she always has the best intreast of her patient at heart.My life has changed drastically, for the better, and no amount of gratitude and appreciation can be put to that. The care that Prof has shown with me on my journey continues until today. I will never forget her parting words to me on my first appointment, this will always stay with me for the rest of my life because it showed me the heart she has in what she does, "please promise me that if you are not happy with me and you don't come back, you will not continue to live with psoriasis because you don't have to".

I would recommend anyone to Prof Carol that is seeking assistance related to dermatology, she is the best in her field but more so, you will always see her love for what she does in how she treats her patients.
